Obscure Music of 80’s Horror

I got in an 80’s mood today and looked up some movies I hadn’t seen in a while. There was a sense of nostalgia when I heard the music play over some of the scenes. For my very first article, I thought it would be a perfect start to talk about some of the songs you may have forgot. It’s okay. I forgot about some of them, too. There’s nothing better than an 80’s horror scene and good music. The following will be just my opinon. If they’re more popular than I realized, I’m sorry. If you don’t like any of them, I’m sorry. Just my two cents. Here are my top ten:

  1. Vince Carlucci – Love Will Find a Way from THE GATE

Alexandria, or Alex, promised her parents she wouldn’t have a party, but she, of course, did. But, honestly, who wouldn’t have a party when their parents are out of town? That’s where this tune comes in.

2.  Jet Black Berries – Love Under Will from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD

Chuck and Casey were sitting by the headstones. Chuck made his move on the beautiful Casey, but it didn’t work out. Of this entire list, this one might be my favorite. It’s one of my favorite movies, too. Great replay value.

3.  Fabio Frizzi – City of the Living Dead – Apoteosi Del Mistero

A very atmospheric and powerful song. I wish it could be used again in another horror movie. This plays toward the end when facing the zombie minions in an underground church. This movie’s on SHUDDER right now under the title, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD.

4.  Stan Ridgeway- The Big Heat from NIGHT OF THE CREEPS

Something interesting that you may not know. After searching endlessly on YOUTUBE through the NIGHT OF THE CREEPS soundtracks and playlists, I couldn’t find this. I know without a doubt that it’s in the movie, but no one talks about it. Maybe it’s because it only plays breifly. I don’t know. But, I found it. Thank you, Google. Thank you, IMDB.

5. Sparks – Armies of the Night from FRIGHT NIGHT

Jack Skellington is an evil vampire? Yes. This is one of my  favorite horror movies of all freaking time. You’re so cool, BREWSTER!

6.  Steve Parsons & Babel – Lover’s Sacrifice from THE HOWLING II

Say what you will about the movie. You either love it or hate, and most of you hate it. Even if you didn’t enjoy watching, the soundtrack is worth the listen.

7. Che Zuro – No Turning Back from CRITTERS

Doesn’t it make you miss the 80’s? I wish I would’ve missed the new CRITTERS show.

8.  Psuedo Echo – His Eyes from FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V

Not my favorite FRIDAY THE 13TH, but I get what they were going for. You have to admit though, this is one of the coolest songs in the franchise.

9. Divinyls- Back to the Wall from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET IV

I’ve always been a Divinyls fan, and this song is no exception. It’s mellow. It fit the scene perfectly. I even like to listen to it when I’m in my car.

10.  Alien – Brave New Love from THE BLOB

This is the closing credit song. Another one of my favorite movies. I really enjoy the song. It captured the movie well.

The movie was filmed in 1988. It wasn’t released until 1996. But, since this is so clearly an 80’s cinema masterpeice, it made the list. If you want to skip right to the song, skip to the 1:00 mark. I enjoy seeing the chili monster. Does anyone know if it’s the same monster that was in ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK? It sure looks like the same one. Anyways, I still have a copy of this on VHS. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed. Let me know what you think!
